Infant Sleep Safety

Ensuring parents have the knowledge to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is of vital importance for infant sleep safety. We are here to help!

Parents everywhere can keep their precious babies safe by following these simple guidelines:

  1. Place baby on his or her back
    1. When placed on their backs babies are less likely to choke, even if they spit up or drool in their sleep. This is the most effective way to prevent SIDS.
  1. Room share with baby
    1. It is recommended to share your room with your baby for a maximum of one year, a minimum of 6 months. Keeping baby close to your bed, but on a separate surface allows you to hear your baby well.
    2. Baby should not sleep in an adult bed, on a couch, or a chair alone, with you, or with another person.
  1. Ensure baby is sleeping on a firm, flat surface
    1. Firm mattresses are recommended for infants. The sleeping area should be free of any bumpers, blankets, or loose bedding.
    2. Do not use a swing, car seat, stroller, or baby carrier as your baby’s routine sleep area.
